Irish-American baritone Liam Shannon is emerging as one of New England’s notable young vocal artists, praised by the South Florida Classical Review for his “strong” voice. 2023-2024 engagements include Albert in Massenet’s Werther with Modern-Vintage Opera, Ping in Puccini’s Turandot with Opera Vermont and the New England Repertory Orchestra, and appearances as baritone soloist in Fauré’s Requiem with the Bennington County Choral Society and Finzi’s Requiem da Camera with the Connecticut Chamber Choir. Additional operatic credits include the Sacristan in Tosca, the Minskman in Flight, and the Ferryman in Curlew River.
In the 2024–2025 season, Mr. Shannon made company debuts with Opera in the Pines, covering Figaro in the world premiere of Barber of the Cape; appeared as Marchese d’Obigny in La traviata with Opera Vermont; and performed the role of Beaumarchais in John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles at the Miami Music Festival. Engagements in the 2025–2026 season include Il Genio in the U.S. premiere of Guglielmo Zuelli’s La Fata del Nord, King Melchior in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, Baron de Pictordu in Cendrillon, and his musical theatre role debut as the Emcee in Cabaret with PanOpera and Springfield Youth Orchestra. Concert appearances include baritone soloist in Duruflé’s Requiem with the Illumine Vocal Arts Ensemble, Fauré’s Requiem and Bach’s Magnificat with the Hampshire Choral Society, bass soloist in Handel’s Messiah at Grace Church Cathedral, and baritone soloist in Haydn’s Mass in Time of War.
In addition to his performing career, Mr. Shannon serves on the voice faculties of Smith College and Amherst College. He holds a Master of Music in Vocal Arts and Opera from the USC Thornton School of Music.
